Ningbo-Zhoushan handles 1.22 trillion tons to remain world’s top port
Ningbo-Zhoushan port posted a cargo throughput of 1.22 trillion tons in 2021, an increase of 4.4% year-on-year, retaining the crown of the world’s top cargo handling port for the 13th consecutive year.
Container volume at Ningbo-Zhoushan port was 31.08 million TEU, up 8.2% year on year, ranking as the world’s third busiest container port following Shanghai and Singapore.
At the end of 2021, Ningbo-Zhoushan port was connected by 287 shipping services, with 27 newly added compared with the number at the end of 2020, among which 117 routes are servicing China’s Belt and Road Initiatives.
In 2021, Ningbo-Zhoushan port strengthened cooperation with shipping companies and railway companies for enhancing the container shipping and sea-rail combined transportation network. Its service efficiency for handling container vessels is rising to the top among the global market.
